Foundation Course

FOUNDATION COURSE (Public Examination) Duration: The Foundation Course is one year’s duration.

After the successful completion of the Foundation Course, the student will be admitted to one of the specified courses:

  • Drawing & Painting (4 year’s duration)
  • Sculpture (4 year’s duration)
  • Textile Design (2 year’s duration)
  • Furniture and Interior Design

OBJECTIVE: To become familiar with the artist’s tools, colors, techniques, and materials, understanding their possibilities and limitations through a series of free and elaborate exercises. To gain an understanding of basic forms and the fundamentals of drawing and design. To receive training in observation and expression.

Nature Drawing: To develop the sense of structure, study from any kind of form in nature. To understand how these forms achieve their structural unity through adherence to principles consistent with the physical nature of the materials being observed and studied through various rendering color media and techniques in various light conditions.

Drawing from Man-made object:  Drawing from cubes, cones, cylindrical objects, cast group observed and techniques in various light conditions.

Drawing from memory: To develop the sense of observation and the capacity to retain image and their co-ordination. Drawing from human figure mainly used on general from with shade and light.

Elements of perspective:  Study of basic solid plan and elevation, main aspects of parallel and two angular perspectives.

Calligraphy: Basic discipline of beautiful handwriting, sense of letter from simultaneous judgment of the composition of letter spacing, organization intuitive and logical planning of writing, development of style. A co-ordinate assignment of Script writing with different types of traditional and modern tools. Students should be exposed to calligraphic examples of various traditional scripts.

Outdoor studies Sketching: Outdoor Sketching from any objects from places like Seascape streets, market section, etc. and also from Museum and Zoo. Students are exposed to such drawings made by master artists of different times.

Design 2D: Study two dimensional space and its organization possibilities.

Elements related to the concept of space and form. Developing elements such as point, line, shade, volume, texture, light and color basic design. Study various objects (natural and man-made) with a view to transform them into flat image.

Design 3D: To develop the sense of structure. Operational Problems in building up structure. Gravitational and Mechanical Principles. Principles of composition and the study of the principles that hold the structure.

Expanding structure through unit ex. experiments through various types of material and their combination such as: Paper Clay, Card Board, Wood Block, Plaster of Paris, String, Wire, Metal Sheet, Gums & Adhesives Wax Found objects etc. Sculptural experience (round and relief) in various light conditions (natural as well as artificial)

Colour (Practical & Theory): Color to understand and formal structure of color through analysis of color theory and relation. Experience of color through experiments of various media. Transparent or opaque color (Water Color, etc.) Learn Experience in color harmony and wash method, broken etc.

History of Indian Art: We will study Stone Age, Art of Indus Civilization, Mauryan period, Sharing period, Kanishka period Golden Era Gupta Period, Medieval Indian Art, Temples style, Indian miniature, Bengal school art, modern artist etc.
